What Travelers Love About MCO

Orlando is one of the top tourist destinations on planet earth, so you'd better believe MCO experiences serious tourist traffic. In fact, current estimates show that around 40 million people pass through MCO every year. That makes MCO one of the busiest airports in the USA. Luckily for you, there are tons of conveniences in this international airport that will help you make a smooth transition from the terminals into sunny O-Town.

First off, there are two TSA pre-check points to help you skip the line. Most people who travel through here say the TSA agents are very friendly and that it doesn't take too long to get through screening lines. There are extremely convenient (and fun!) trams that connect the two terminals as well as a wide variety of sit-down and budget dining options. Since a majority of people traveling here are going straight to Walt Disney World, MCO has a dedicated bus service that will take you straight to your magical hotel. To find out more about this special Walt Disney World bus service, please look into Disney's Magical Express.

What Travelers Don't Like About MCO

MCO's bathrooms get rather low ratings from online reviewers. Many tourists complain that the bathrooms in this international airport are not well maintained and are seriously out of date.

Another common complaint about MCO is the lack of seating around the terminals. Don't be surprised if you see a bunch of people standing around here even during slower times.

Although the trams are extremely smooth and convenient when they're up and running, some people have complained that the trams often breakdown. If you're unfortunate enough to be in MCO when the trams breakdown, this can seriously mess up your travel itinerary.

As a final note, some travelers complain that the line in Terminal A's Starbucks is always inordinately long. If you're rushing through and want to pick up a quick cappuccino, you most likely won't be able to do make it in Terminal A.

Where To Shop And Eat In MCO

Probably the best thing to do while waiting around in MCO is visit the themed shops. All of Orlando's major theme parks have special stores you'll only find in MCO. For example, you'll find a Disney EarPort store, a Universal Studios store, a SeaWorld shop, and a Kennedy Space Center store. Any bikers reading this article will definitely want to check out MCO's Harley Davidson store before getting on their flight.

Feel like sitting down for a nice meal? You'll find plenty of options in MCO. A few luxury restaurants you could choose from include Hemisphere and McCoy's Bar & Grill. There's even a spa here designed to help you de-stress before continuing on your journey.

Why Is It Called MCO?

Many people wonder why Orlando's major international airport has the official code MCO. To answer this question, we briefly have to explore the history of this major American airport. During World War II, the area that's now MCO was called McCoy Air Field Base and served the purpose of training America's finest fighter pilots. After WWII, McCoy AFB was transformed to a Strategic Air Command for the Cold War. It wasn't until 1975 that this base became the international airport we know today. When officials chose an airport code for Orlando International back in the mid-70s, they decided to use MCO as a reminder McCoy's legacy.
