The Good
Cleveland Hopkins is a smaller airport, so many people like that its small size makes it easy to navigate. The airport, including the restrooms, is very clean. That is uncommon for an airport. Because the traffic here is pretty light, security lines tend to move quickly and seats are easy to come by. The free Wi-Fi is reliable and easy to connect to. The dining and drinking options are limited, but are of high quality. Great Lakes Brewery, which is based in Cleveland, has an outpost in the airport. It is an essential stop.
The Not-So-Good
There are a few things travelers don't like about the airport. The car rental desk is not connected to a terminal, but is completely separate from the airport. Many people, understandably, find this annoying. Cleveland Hopkins is an older airport, so some of the facilities are outmoded. Power outlets, for example, are in short supply. Informational signs are few and far between, making it difficult to track the status of your flight. Being a smaller airport, dining options are limited.
What to See and Do
There are some interesting and fun things to do and see at the Cleveland Airport. Cleveland is home to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the Hall of Fame has sponsored a project which features painted guitars throughout the airport. When taking off, be sure and look out your window at the gorgeous view of Lake Erie. Cleveland is also the birthplace of Superman, so check out the tribute to Superman exhibit near the baggage claim on your way out.
History and Fun Facts
Cleveland Hopkins was built in 1925, and today it is the largest and busiest airport in Ohio. The airport was home to a few notable firsts, such as being the first municipally owned airport in the U.S., and being the first airport to have an air traffic control tower. In 1951, the airport was named after its founder, former city manager William Hopkins. Cleveland is a focus city for Frontier Airlines and United Airlines. Its top destination is Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
