Highlights of Buffalo Niagara

Although the airport is considered "mid-sized" within the industry, you may enjoy the somewhat smaller, less hectic atmosphere here. And while it may not be as big as some others, it has a still packs a lot of features and amenities so that your stay, whether just brief or overnight, is a very pleasant one. The facilities are very clean and there are a plethora of dining and shopping options (some of which we'll take you through below) to pass the time before your flight. Of course, Buffalo Niagara provides you with free WiFi. There are also a plethora of places to recharge your phone and any other electronic devices.

The Not-So-Nice

There's not a lot to complain about here, but we'd be remiss if we did not mention some of the minor downsides that could cause you some irritation. For one, once dining establishments close for the night you'll be left with vending machine fare as your only available option for some food before your flight. If possible, grab your food as early as you can so that you don't go without. Be aware that after checkpoints close for the night you'll be restricted to landside. If you're sleeping at Check-In, plan ahead with a pillow, warm blanket and sleeping bag; the doors will start again at 4:00 am.

You Have Lots of Options

If you're not sleeping, there's plenty to do and see at Buffalo Niagara. If you have small children in tow, there is a great play area that comes nicely-equipped with a variety of Fisher-Price toys. Maybe you'd prefer to check out the original Buffalo Chicken Wing at the Anchor Bar or try a Red Osier sandwich at the Blue Zone. If your preference is to catch up on some news the old-fashioned way or do some light reading, there are three newsstands that sell papers, magazines, gifts, and snacks. While Buffalo Niagara doesn't have dedicated showers, they do feature both a barber and a shoe shine; you can get your top and toes taken care of for a little refresher.

Where It All Started

You may find it interesting that Buffalo Niagara is actually one of the oldest public passenger airports in the country. It began as the Buffalo Municipal Airport in 1926 on what was then just a patch of farmland. At various times over the next several decades, the airport underwent some expansions and even some name changes including the Greater Buffalo International Airport and of course the Buffalo Niagara Airport we know today. For a few years, there was even an industrial park here as well, though it was demolished some years ago. By 2019, further changes and renovations will be complete.
