Therefore, city officials have listened and are planning a new airport at the current location. A $1 billion terminal with 51 gates will be constructed eliminating the need for the people mover. The airport hopes that the vacated terminal can be turned into retail shopping space. Otherwise, it will be demolished. They hope to start construction on the new terminal in 2018 with completion set for 2023.
