What Travelers Love About the Sacramento Airport

Traveling often means eating poor-quality, badly made food as you're running to catch your flight, which is why travelers love flying through Sacramento! Offering 22 award-winning dining options spread between their two terminals, you're sure to find something that's great for you. In addition to the wide array of dining options, the Sacramento Airport offers 19 little shops and markets for you to grab anything you've forgotten or to pick up last-minute souvenirs for your folks back home.

Keeping devices charged is incredibly important in this day and age, as even your plane ticket might be stored on your phone! Fortunately, the Sacramento Airport has ample charging in its departure lounge, so travelers never run out of juice.

What Travelers Don't Love About the Sacramento Airport

When flying at odd hours, getting something to eat in the morning or late at night can be difficult, and some travelers have reported that early morning food options are slim to none.

Additionally, travelers have remarked on the oddity of needing to take an airport shuttle to collect checked bags, as baggage claim may be in a different terminal, and the fact that rental car facilities are located wholly outside the airport ' not ideal in California heat! With minimal signage compared to other airports, travelers may find navigating the airport more confusing than necessary.

Interesting, Fun, and Offbeat Experiences to Have at the Sacramento Airport

Keep an eye out for the therapy dogs roaming the halls, looking out for nervous fliers to comfort. If you see this pup, don't be shy to say hello! (Do be sure, of course, that the dog is an airport volunteer and wearing a navy vest that says PET ME, as petting a working service dog is a big no-no!)

If you're flying through Terminal A with a partner, check out the whisper dome just past the security checkpoint for a cool experience!

Finally, check out the art that's scattered throughout both terminals ' the 56' bright red rabbit leaping from the ceiling in Terminal B is a great spot for a photograph.

History of the Sacramento Airport

The Sacramento Airport originally opened in October of 1967, and has been a major hub of international travel to California and the United States ever since.

In 2006, the Sacramento International Airport became the first airport to offer freed WiFi to travelers, kickstarting a major shift in the amenities offered by airports and expected by travelers.

Terminal B was fully remodeled and re-opened in 2011, becoming the first airport terminal to achieve LEED Silver status ' in a building as large and active as an airport, this is a big deal!
