The overall outlay of the airport is modern and refreshing, but one major downside is the relatively long walk to the baggage claim area in Terminal 1's, B Concourse. The smoking restrictions at the airport led to the removal of smoking lounges inside the gate sections, a move that inconvenienced some travelers looking for quick smoking breaks. The lounges are now perched on the lower floors of Courses A and B.

The History of SLC Airport
Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is located about 4 miles from downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. The civilian and military airport ranks as the 15th busiest in the US. It serves as the hub of several airlines, including Delta Air Lines and SkyWest Airlines. The other large carriers operating here are Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. The airport's origins can be traced to 1911 when it began as a grazing airfield.
The first terminal and administration block at the airport was erected in 1933 at a modest cost of about $50,000. The development was followed by the entry of United Airlines that connected Salt Lake City to San Francisco and New York. The US Air Forces established a base here during WWII. The airport has since been upgraded with the addition of a new terminal, access road modernization and expansion of baggage claim facilities.
