What Can Fort Myers Offer Me?

There are a variety of services travelers have come to expect from their airports, certainly. But Fort Meyers also provides a few extra amenities that are not typically seen in most airports. For one, you'll be able to get massages to melt away from of those travel nerves, all at no cost to you. For the artistically-minded, there are often live musical performances, and various artworks, throughout the airport. In addition to these, you'll have regular perks such as free WiFi, some food and drink options, cash machines and the like.

A Few Issues

You'll have the option to sleep both landside and airside here, but be aware that security checkpoints will close for the night; we recommend tired patrons stick to landside so that they don't have to move later.

The seating has armrests which can make it hard to get more comfortable for sleeping. Benches tend to be hard, and are only sparsely included. For the most part, we'd plan on the floor and a good traveling mattress.

While the music can be beautiful, it's often piped in at all hours, so bring some earplugs if it isn't your thing. Also, note that while the airport itself is 24-hours, food and drink stores are not, so plan ahead and grab food early.

Choice of Shops and Eateries

There are quite a few choices when it comes to shopping and dining at RWI. While they may not be open late enough to accommodate the red-eye traveler, many operate with flexible hours, such that you should be able to find at least some shops and stalls open at most times. You'll have your pick from things like Quiznos and Starbucks, but if you've ever wanted to try a bagel that is so good it's called "The Great American Bagel," you can do that here too. Gift shops are available for those who want to pick up some keepsakes for loved ones, and even particular specialty stores, such as golfing supplies, can be found here.

Cool Facts & Features

If you make a study of the history surrounding the airports that you visit, you might find it interesting that RSW began in 1973. Construction on the airport wasn't fully completed until 1983 when it could finally begin taking on travelers; making it relatively young among airports. Only a few years after its construction, the annual traffic it was receiving more than three million and by the mid-nineties, it was clear that expansion was needed as it was now an extremely popular destination receiving more than double the capacity of traffic it was meant to handle. For foreign destinations, Germany quickly became a popular choice during these times. It remains one of the busiest international routes for Fort Meyers to this day, second only to Canada. The airport is also home to a relatively new Airport Rescue and Firefighting facility.
