Some Rather Surprising Positive Feedback About Check-ins and TSA Processes
Many past passengers have commented and complimented the airport for the speed and efficiency at points checking in and at TSA security points, which is rather rare these days. Within the airport, passengers really love that there are charging stations for their electronics all around the airport now.
In keeping with the Las Vegas theme, there are slot machines located throughout the airport, some of which are in locations that allow smoking. Fliers appreciate the decent number of bars and restaurants that range from convenient (coffee shops, fast food) to fine dining. Feedback on the quality of food is that it's generally good; not great, but expectations aren't as high here as it is an airport, after all.
For travelers with some time on their hands, they can enjoy checking out the Howard W. Cannon Aviation Museum, the most visited museum complex in Nevada. The main exhibit is located on Level 2 above baggage claim at Terminal 1, with other exhibits located in ticketing, in the gate areas, and in the C Gates along the moving walkway.
Perhaps Surprisingly, There are Not a Great Number of Airport Complaints at LAS
What with the scope and size of mega-airports (of which McCarran is one), the list of complaints is usually long and widely spread out (security, amenities, services, customer service, etc.), but not so much in Las Vegas. Some have complained about the terminal being too dirty or 'dingy' in certain areas, too hot, with not enough water fountains. One legitimate thing that some travelers don't like is how spread out the whole airport complex is. Getting dropped off or being picked up in the wrong terminal area, for example, will take some doing to get to your desired location. Moving walkways and escalators are plentiful throughout the airport, but it's still difficult to get longer distances with a bunch of bags to negotiate.
If You Have Any Money Left, Have Some Fun With It Here Before Departing
McCarran is a very modern airport with a good number of restaurants and bars to dine and drink at, souvenir shops and other stores that sell Las Vegas-themed merchandise, and perhaps what really makes this airport stand out among most others, the 1,300 slot machines located all throughout the airport. Many airports are older, dull and drab (very utilitarian), with nothing to do for travelers waiting for their flight. Certainly, that's no problem here.
McCarran in a Miscellaneous Way...
McCarran International Airport, for the third consecutive year, ranked #3 in customer experience among 19 "mega-size" airports (32.5+ million passengers per year) in North America. The survey, based on responses from 34,695 North American travelers through at least one international or domestic airport that had both departure and arrival experiences, measured the quality of terminal facilities, food and retail concessions, accessibility, check-in, security checks, and baggage claim.
