Happy 4th of July!

It is as American as apple pie and baseball to watch fireworks bursting into the air on July 4, and there are festivities scheduled that holiday in what seems like every city and town in the country. However, there are five cities that stand out.

Philadelphia

One of the best places to enjoy July 4 festivities with the family is the city where the Declaration of Independence was adopted. Just a year later, on July 4, 1777, residents of this great city commemorated this independence by placing lit candles in their windows. In 2013, the “Largest Free Concert in America” will take place at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Musical performances by The Roots, John Mayer, Demi Lovato and others start at 7 p.m. and precede the fireworks show. Festivities in the City of Brotherly Love start at 10 that morning.

Lake Tahoe

The fireworks celebration at Lake Tahoe is judged to be one of the best in the United States by many, including media outlets such as USA Today. It is easily one of the most beautiful settings to celebrate this holiday. Visitors can take the M.S. Dixie II or the Tahoe Queen, a pair of Mississippi paddle wheelers, out onto the water and watch the fireworks from there. Others can barbeque and picnic on the beautiful sandy beaches at Nevada, Regan and El Dorado Beaches. The view is amazing from these places.

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is a great place to travel with the family and combine a love for all things Disney with a love for the United States. Disney’s Celebrate America – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky takes place at the Magic Kingdom. The entire park from Cinderella Castle to the merchandise is filled with a red-white-and-blue décor. A patriotic parade featuring the Main Street Philharmonic will take place before the Celebrate a Dream Come True parade. The fireworks display follows. There will also be celebrations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Concerts will be performed throughout the day at Epcot.

San Francisco

Visitors to San Francisco on July 4 can enjoy fireworks launched from Fisherman’s Wharf. A chance to watch with the famous Sea Lions at the end of Pier 39 can make for an especially memorable vacation. Live music is performed at Pier 39 prior to the fireworks. Some travel across the Golden Gate Bridge and watch from prime viewing spots in the Marin Headlands. Treasure Island, an island that the Bay Bridge bisects, is also a popular viewing place. During the day, one of America’s largest Fourth of July parades takes place in Alameda on the other side of the Bay Bridge.

Honolulu

The newest state is home to one of the more spectacular fireworks shows in the country. The Ala Moana Center, located less than two miles from downtown Honolulu, plays host to the festivities. There are few experiences that compare to going on vacation and watching the sky light up while relaxing on the beach in Waikiki. There is also a great view available from Ala Moana Beach Park. Entertainment ranging from hula shows to concerts starts that afternoon at 1.
