A History Of The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport
The property was acquired in 1925, but the first flight didn't leave the airport until 1926. The first airline used the airport in 1928. It has had a National Weather Service station since 1928. Delta Airlines began to use the airport in 1930. However, the first field control tower wasn't opened until 1939.
The airport was used by the military from 1940 until the end of World War II. It became a civilian airport again after World War II. It was renamed Atlanta Municipal Airport in 1946. However, the first jet did not fly from Atlanta until 1957. The airport became increasingly popular through the second half of the 20th century, and it became the world's busiest airport in 1998.
