I spoke to my friend Vanessa, a native of New Orleans, and she had these suggestions for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-contrast-2-background-color has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-3dbef34a wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-radius:20px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30)\">\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this article&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:700\" class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-block-list wp-elements-7ebf05e9b9a5738be3fa4619e8104cbc\">\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#music\" id=\"item-music\">New Orleans Live Music Venues<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#drink\" id=\"item-drink\">Where to Drink in New Orleans<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#eat\" id=\"item-eat\">Where to Eat in New Orleans<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#see\" id=\"item-see\">What to See in New Orleans<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"music\">New Orleans Live Music Venues<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the best jazz, ask the concierge at your hotel for a calendar to <a href=\"https:\/\/snugjazz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Snug Harbor<\/a>. On any given night, a member of America\u2019s \u201cFirst Family of Jazz\u201d, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Marsalis-family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marsalis Family<\/a>, is usually playing. Grab some food and listen to the best live jazz you\u2019ve ever heard. It\u2019s on Frenchman Street in a neighborhood called \u201cThe Marigny\u201d which is close to the French Quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If jazz isn\u2019t your thing, there are many clubs along <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neworleans.com\/plan\/streets\/frenchmen-street\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Frenchman Street<\/a> where you can find any type of live music you can imagine from blues to reggae to rock-n-roll.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"drink\">Where to Drink in New Orleans<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s no surprise that New Orleans inspired the invention of many adult beverages, so why not drink the drink where it was invented? At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.napoleonhouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Napoleon House<\/a> (Napoleon\u2019s old apartment) get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.napoleonhouse.com\/national-pimms-cup-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pimms Cup<\/a>. Have a Sazerac at <a href=\"https:\/\/therooseveltneworleans.com\/dining\/sazerac-bar-menu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Sazerac Bar and Restaurant<\/a> inside Roosevelt Hotel, and go to Pat O\u2019Brien\u2019s for a Hurricane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New Orleans has no open container law, so feel free to take that plastic or Styrofoam cup with you on the walk to your next destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bourbon Street is the obvious destination if you\u2019re looking for a party atmosphere. Bars line the streets, and at the <a href=\"https:\/\/catskaraoke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cat\u2019s Meow<\/a>, there are 3 for 1 drinks every day from 4-6pm and some great karaoke too. At the end of Bourbon Street is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lafittesblacksmithshop.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lafitte\u2019s Blacksmith Shop<\/a>, the oldest bar in America. Grab a cocktail and chat in the front room, or head to the piano bar in the back room for live entertainment.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"eat\">Where to Eat in New Orleans<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your first stop will of course <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cafedumonde.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Caf\u00e9 Du Monde<\/a> for a breakfast of their famous beignets and chicory coffee. If you\u2019re looking for a more hearty breakfast, check out the famous brunch at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brennansneworleans.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brennan\u2019s<\/a> or the fantastic jazz brunch at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtoftwosisters.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Court of Two Sisters.<\/a> Try something new at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ralphandkacoos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ralph and Kacoos<\/a> on Toulouse where you can get a fried alligator po-boy for lunch or crawfish bisque for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Head to the Roosevelt or <a href=\"https:\/\/cochonrestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cochon<\/a> for a Cochon de lait main dish or sandwich. If you\u2019re unfamiliar with dish, Cochon du lait is the French art of cooking a pig before an open hardwood fire; it\u2019s a Cajun tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re looking for fried chicken, <a href=\"https:\/\/williemaesnola.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willie May\u2019s Scotch House<\/a> has arguably the best fried chicken ever.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"see\">What to See in New Orleans<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalww2museum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The National World War II Museum<\/a>. The museum is housed in three separate buildings all on the same lot, and they suggest that you set aside at least three hours in order to take in all it has to offer. It tells the story of the American experience in \u201cThe War that Changed the World\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Walk down Royal Street in the French Quarter, and visit the art galleries. <a href=\"https:\/\/georgerodrigue.com\/blog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Rodrigue Studio<\/a> in New Orleans houses art by New Orleans\u2019 most famous modern painter, George Rodrique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stroll along <a href=\"https:\/\/www.experienceneworleans.com\/jackson-square.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jackson Square<\/a> in the French Quarter and enjoy watching artists at work. There are merchants, museums, and restaurants as well, and you\u2019re just a short walk away from the Mississippi River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just outside of New Orleans is swampland. Call up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cajunencounters.com\/swamp_tour.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cajun Encounters.<\/a> They\u2019ll send a bus to pick you up in the city and take you out to the countryside where you can take a swamp boat tour and see alligators, and other wildlife up close. I can personally vouch for this tour; it\u2019s tons of fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is, of course, only a small sampling of all the things to do and see in New Orleans. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neworleans.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Orleans Online<\/a> is actually a great resource.
